It’s a newly renovated Redwood City hotel with a brand-new restaurant concept.
The Pullman San Francisco Bay hotel, formerly the Sofitel, has opened the Scroll Bar Waterside Kitchen, a contemporary restaurant with an emphasis on seafood and bayside views.
Executive chef Mariano Lalica’s inaugural menu features shareable dishes such as crab dip with wasabi roe, mussels with ginger and watercress and buns filled with kalbi pork belly or hot Southern fried chicken. Mains include cioppino, roasted Petaluma chicken, a daily fresh catch and pistachio nut lamb chops.
In honor of the chef’s Hawaiian heritage, a special Luau Pig feast for eight is offered, with slow-roasted heritage pork shoulder and all the traditional sides (ahi poke, sweet potato, lomi salmon, coconut rice and Sonoma greens).
Naturally, that Scroll Bar name means the restaurant has tech in mind: Every seating area is equipped with a charging station for powering gadgets. You might want to do so while sipping one of mixologist Freddie Sarkis’ aptly named signature cocktails, the Digital Detox (Laughing Monk’s 3rd Street Pale Ale Whiskey, house-made tea syrup, lemon juice).
Details: Scroll Bar is located inside the Pullman, 223 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City; www.scrollbarkitchen.com.
